During Theaterfestival Boulevard, ‘s-Hertogenbosch will be bursting to the seams with theatre, dance, music, performance, cabaret, street theatre and art. Theaterfestival Boulevard’s biggest claim to fame is its daring, wide-ranging programme consisting of idiosyncratic Dutch and Flemish performers as well as international directors and choreographers.
From 4 – 14 August 2016, Theaterfestival Boulevard & Jheronimus Bosch 500 will produce and present inventive, stimulating works by Flemish makers and international performers in whose truly unique work we discern traces of Bosch-like characteristics. In 2016, Theaterfestival Boulevard − in the framework of Jheronimus Bosch 500 − will feature works including:
Company Marie Chouinard (Canada) world premiere
Canadian choreographer Marie Chouinard is world renowned. Her dance group is viewed as one of the world’s most fascinating. The work is theatrical, funny and devastatingly beautiful. A new work, inspired by Jheronimus Bosch’s oeuvre will premiere on 4 August 2016. www.mariechouinard.com
Theater Artemis & Het Zuidelijk Toneel – world premiere (8 years old and up)
How the adults left and what happened next. An ordinary Medieval village at the end of the summer. The hay has dried in the fields and been brought in and stored in haylofts. However, something is up. There’s a mysterious virus going around. Love that was once so self-evident, disappears from one day to the next. Fathers and mothers desert their children. Director Jetse Batelaan depicts struggling humanity with melancholy and compassion. www.artemis.nl www.hzt.nl
Laika (Belgium) – Dutch première (12+)
Piknik Horrifik. The Flemish Laika has been a valued guest at Theaterfestival Boulevard for years. The company has now created a sensory open-air installation inspired by scenes from Jheronimus Bosch’s works. Viewers will be invited into a bare landscape and soon find themselves seduced by paradisiacal pleasures. A tasty, apocalyptic picnic for children and adults. www.laika.be
Lucas De Man – world première Wolk
The remarkable installation, Wolk [Cloud] will be the second city project for ‘s-Hertogenbosch’s artist in residence Lucas De Man. For his first city project OOG [EYE] he hung five gigantic eyes from buildings in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Now a cloud offers space for thinking, dreaming and contemplation. www.stichtingnieuwehelden.nl
Benjamin Verdonck (Belgium) – Dutch première
Benjamin Verdonck is an actor, author, artist and theatre maker. His disruptive work travels the globe. Verdonck’s weapons of choice are poetry and humour. A new installation by him is set to be erected in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. www.benjamin-verdonck.be
Miwa Matreyek (USA) – Dutch première
This World Made Itself. Miwa Matreyek is a multimedia artist from Los Angeles. Her fantastical animation projections seek out the boundary between the real and the unreal. This World Made Itself is a visual, musical journey through the history of the earth and the universe, a live performance in which animation overlaps with the artist’s shadow. www.semihemisphere.com
