Even though Jheronimus Bosch’s work continues to generate a lot of academic attention, little is known about the master and his studio. The iconography of certain paintings remains a mystery and there are many unanswered questions when it comes to the chronology of the works attributed to him.

In 2016, extra attention will be paid to Bosch as the 500th anniversary of his death will be commemorated with a major exhibition at the Noordbrabants Museum and all manner of Bosch-related activities in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. A lot will also be organised in the academic field with, as its highlight, the publication of the Bosch Research and Conservation Project (BRCP) monograph and the Jheronimus Bosch: His Life and His Work conference. The latter will be organised by the BRCP, JB500 and the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center. It will also take place at the latter. A variety of Bosch-related subjects will be discussed by international speakers. Furthermore, the BRCP’s findings and the restorations of various works will be discussed.
